Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) says House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s State of the Union postponement tactics aren’t really about the shutdown or thwarting the border wall so much but instead is about cutting off a direct line of communication between President Donald Trump and the American people. As you’ll recall, Pelosi wrote President Trump Wednesday requesting that he delay the televised SOTU until the government is reopened, calling it a “housekeeping matter.” According to Cruz, it’s really because Pelosi is a hostage of sorts to the Democrats’ increasingly Left wing voter base, and she and her party mates are being exposed for spiteful politicking despite funding previous border security efforts. From Cruz: They’re terrified of their extreme left wing, who hates Trump. And that’s why we’re having a shutdown. So why does Nancy Pelosi not want the State of the Union? Because the State of the Union is an enormous platform for the president to speak directly to the American people. Spot on, senator!

On Wednesday, asked about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s stance to postpone President Trump’s State of the Union Address and why she would take that position, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) gave a biting answer that was dead right: Pelosi doesn’t want Trump to directly address the American people because then they will get a different message than the mainstream media will give them.
Pelosi wrote to President Trump on Wednesday, “Sadly, given the security concerns and unless government re-opens this week, I suggest we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress on January 29.” She later told CNN, “This is a housekeeping matter in the Congress of the United States, so we can honor the responsibility of the invitation we extended to the President. He can make it from the Oval Office if he wants.”
