IRS Paid Billions In Improper Tax Credits

IRS

The Internal Revenue Service paid more than $13 billion in tax credits last year to people who may not have qualified, a government investigator said Tuesday.

The Earned Income Tax Credits were supposed to go to low-income working families.

The agency’s inspector general issued a report Tuesday saying the improper payments were between $13.3 billion and $15.6 billion. That’s about a quarter of all EITC payments.

“The IRS can and must do more to protect taxpayer dollars from waste, fraud and abuse,” said J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration.

The IRS said it is aggressively fighting tax fraud, and is improving its efforts to police EITC payments. The agency said it has stopped nearly 15 million suspicious returns since 2011, blocking more than $50 billion in fraudulent refunds.

Boehner Switching to Focus Immigration Reform?

476653011

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has a pretty good idea of what immigration reform in the House is going to look like. He just doesn’t know when it’s going to happen.

Addressing the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on Monday in San Antonio, Boehner said he wanted to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws “in chunks” over a period of a week or two to a month. The process would likely begin with border security measures, and it would address the crucial question of citizenship for illegal immigrants in a way that he said would “pass the straight-face test” for people who have already gone through the arduous process legally.

But none of that will happen, Boehner reiterated, until President Obama builds back trust with Republicans in Congress.

Study: Himalayan Glaciers Not Disappearing After All

glacier

Himalayan glaciers – for years one of the poster children of the “man-made global warming is real and we’re all doomed” movement – are in no imminent danger whatsoever, a new study has found. (h/t GWPF and Watts Up With That?)

Of the 2018 glaciers mapped and monitored for the survey, nearly 87 per cent were found to be stable while only 12 per cent were found to be in retreat. These real-world observations are in marked contrast to the predictions by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in its 2007 report that the Himalayan glaciers could disappear “by 2035.”

74% of Obamacare Enrollees Already Had Insurance

o-OBAMACARE-ENROLLMENT-facebook

A devastating new McKinsey & Co. report finds that Obamacare’s purported purpose – providing coverage for the previously uninsured – has failed.

The report concludes that 74% of Obamacare enrollees at the end of the first open enrollment period already had insurance; just 26% reported being previously uninsured. Of those who were previously uninsured, the figure drops to only 22% when considered alongside whether the individual has activated his plan by paying his first month’s premium.

According to the Associated Press, at least 4.7 million Americans had their health insurance plans canceled due to Obamacare. Many of those individuals simply went through the Obamacare exchanges to buy policies to replace the ones President Barack Obama’s healthcare program outlawed.

Santorum Voices Support For Minimum Wage Hike

Image: Rick Santorum

Appearing Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum reiterated his support for hiking the federal minimum wage. He explained that Republican opposition to mandating a wage increase alienated the GOP from working-class Americans. His is the latest national Republican voice calling on the party to support a mandated wage hike.

In recent weeks, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney have both voiced support for an increase in the federal minimum wage. “I think we ought to raise it, because frankly, our party is all about more jobs and better pay,” Romney said in an interview with MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “[A]nd I think communicating that is important to us.”

$474M For 4 Failed Obamacare Exchanges

obamacare

Nearly half a billion dollars in federal money has been spent developing four state Obamacare exchanges that are now in shambles — and the final price tag for salvaging them may go sharply higher.

Each of the states — Massachusetts, Oregon, Nevada and Maryland — embraced Obamacare, and each underperformed. All have come under scathing criticism and now face months of uncertainty as they rush to rebuild their systems or transition to the federal exchange.

Movie Critics Attack Faith-Based Movie As ‘Dangerous’

movie

The new comedy Mom’s Night Out features a stay-at-home mother who finally gets the chance to cut loose with her girlfriends. Chaos ensues, and so do a few faith-friendly messages for the masses.

RogerEbert.com says the PG-rated movie may be dangerous to the culture at large in its official review.

Depressingly regressive and borderline dangerous, “Moms’ Night Out” peddles archaic notions of gender roles in the name of wacky laughs. But it also wants to be “About Something.” It wants to inspire as well as entertain. It’s “The Hangover” aimed at Christian audiences, and if that sounds like an impossible prospect, well, that’s because it is.

Gosnell Filmmaker Meets $2.1M Crowd-Funding Goal

gosnell

Phelim McAleer conceded that he did not expect his crowdfunding effort for a “classic American TV crime drama” about heinous abortionist Kermit Gosnell to reach its $2.1 million goal.

As of Saturday, though, the movie has raised over $2.1 million dollars from over 24,000 contributors, proving not only the power of new media but the demand for movies and projects that the mainstream media would prefer not to tell or showcase.

Now that he has met his benchmark, McAleer is hoping to get 30,000 backers before the campaign ends in three days. He has vowed not to let his supporters down in telling a story that is full of heroes, mystery, and plenty of villains and corrupt politicians.

Biden Takes Shot At Clintons in South Carolina

Joe Biden, Jill Biden, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Bill Clinton

CNN reports that Vice President Joe Biden, apparently unwilling to concede the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination to Hillary Clinton, told South Carolina Democrats that the latter years of the Bill Clinton administration were responsible for the beginning of the decline in middle-class financial security.

Attendees at the VIP Capital City Club in Columbia, S.C. asserted that Biden’s speech was largely “populist’ and intense. One listener called the speech an “Elizabeth Warren-type speech” because it targeted income inequality.

Militia Mobilize for Next Battle With BLM

Range Showdown

Militiamen and woman camping on Cliven Bundy’s cattle ranch are packing up and heading to Utah where another protest against the Bureau of Land Management will happen Saturday.
