Jerry Brown Blames Climate Change for California Wildfires

Forget a wholesale lack of evidence, climate evangelist Gov. Jerry Brown of California is blaming climate change – not poor forest management – for the wildfires wreaking havoc in his state. This is in stark contrast to ample evidence to the contrary: wildfires on the West Coast are largely the result of man-made overregulation, resulting in the underharvesting of forests and an abundance of flammable dead undergrowth and trees. Moonbeam Brown and his ilk also ignore California’s routinely hot, dry climate with cyclical, prolonged drought.

Here’s more from Breitbart…

California Gov. Jerry Brown blamed climate change Sunday for the California wildfires, despite a complete lack of evidence — a day after President Donald Trump was widely criticized for blaming poor forest management.
According to the Associated Press, Brown, described as an “evangelist” for climate change, also blamed climate change deniers for the deadly fires, saying they were responsible for the deaths of California residents.

“Managing all the forests in everywhere we can does not stop climate change,” he said. “And those who deny that are definitely contributing to the tragedies that we’re now witnessing, and will continue to witness in the coming years.”

Trump’s theory is that over-regulation has led to under-harvesting of forests, leaving more fuel for fires to burn. Brown’s theory is that the global use of fossil fuels is making California warmer and drier, and more prone to fires.

Farrakhan Visits Iran: Chants “Death to America”

Anti-semite favorite of the political left Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan traveled to Iran on the anniversary of the 1979 hostage crisis and the Trump administration’s levying of new sanctions on Iran to lead chants of “Death to America.” He also used the opportunity to tell his Iranian audience that black Americans released during the hostage crisis should be regarded as revolutionaries, and that “America has never been a democracy.” With friends like Farrakhan, who needs enemies? He’s one more reminder of why the left’s motley coalition is such an odd thing.

Here’s more from Fox News…

Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, a notorious anti-Semite who recently compared Jewish people to termites, led a “Death to America” chant Sunday during a solidarity trip to Iran.

Farrakhan’s trip came ahead of the Trump administration’s re-implementation of U.S. sanctions against the Islamic Republic on Monday.

Speaking to law school students at the University of Tehran, the 85-year-old Farrakhan said “America has never been a democracy,” and also led a “Death to Israel” chant at the end of his talk, according to Iranian news agencies.

“Today, I warn the American government that sanctioning Iran is a big mistake,” he said at a meeting with the Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council, Mohsen Rezaei. Farrakhan noted his belief America is conspiring against Iran.

Migrant Caravan Rejects Job Offers for Asylum

In a telling report by the Arizona Central, members of the now 7,000-migrant caravan have rejected opportunities to stay and work in Mexico. TIME magazine published details that Mexican officials reportedly attempted to appease the mass of humanity by offering “shelter, medical attention, schooling and jobs” if the migrants agreed to remain “in the southern Mexico states of Chiapas or Oaxaca.” Unfortunately, the caravan has stalled about 190 miles into Mexico amid claims of a child abduction with Mexican police forming a human blockade on a bridge to prevent their northward travel. The “leaders” of the caravan say they will “rest” for a day, presumably for the negative headline to fade. But this begs we wonder aloud what the endgame is if not for a free ticket to the U.S.

Here’s more from The Daily Wire…

A migrant caravan currently snaking its way from Honduras to the United States’s southern border was intercepted by Mexican government officials on Saturday, who offered the migrants the opportunity to stay in Mexico on work permits — an offer the migrant caravan has reportedly declined.

The Arizona Central reports that the caravan, which now numbers between five and seven thousand people, ran into a Mexican police blockade Saturday, temporarily halting progress on a bridge just outside the Mexican state of Oaxaca.

“Rows of police impeded the migrants’ path, prompting several hours of negotiations between police commanders, immigration officials and caravan representatives,” the AZ Central said. Mexican officials reportedly offered the migrants “shelter, medical attention, schooling and jobs” if the migrants agreed to remain “in the southern Mexico states of Chiapas or Oaxaca,” according to TIME Magazine.

Students Ordered to Spray Paint Over Name of Christ on Football Field

High school students in Louisiana were ordered to scrub a logo from their school’s football field because it contained references to Christianity. The logo included a cross and a Bible verse reference as a part of a local company’s trademark which had legally contracted with the school for advertising on the field. It comes as precisely zero surprise that the school’s legal counsel advised officials to remove the logo after a suit was filed by Americans for Separation of Church and State. Though a local judge issued a stay to protect the logo (surprise!), it had already been removed. Insert huge legal battle over the right of a local school and students to display the name of Christ publicly.

Here’s more from Fox News…

Two Benton High School students were ordered to remove a logo from the football field end zones because it included Christian references.

The order came just hours before the Louisiana high school football team ran onto the field.

“You have to stand up for Christ no matter what (and we) just told the coaches we wouldn’t do it,” one of the students wrote on social media. “We ended up leaving the field and not helping them cover up the Scripture that was put on the field.”

The logo belonged to Christ Fit Gym, a faith-based gymnasium in nearby Bossier City, Louisiana. It included the words “Christ Fit Gym,” a cross and a Bible verse reference, 1 Timothy 4:8.

Owner Billy Weatherall tells me he paid the high school football booster club $3,500 to put his logo in the end zone for the 2018-19 football season.

“We have a signed contract,” he told the Todd Starnes Radio Show.

“I got a phone call from a school official Friday morning while I was having my quiet time and drinking coffee,” Weatherall said. “He said they were instructed to paint over the cross and he was devastated about it.”

A New Era Dawns for Religious Freedom

Last week the State Department’s Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom marked the first-ever meeting to advance meaningful religious freedom around the world rather than increasingly diluted lip service to one of the quintessential foundational principles of our republic and in modern Western government. More than 80 countries and 400 civil society and religious leaders attended the meeting and together produced not only the Potomac Declaration and the Potomac Plan of Action as a road map of how to improve religious freedom in the real world but also as a reality check for current states to compel action. This is a landmark move rivaled only by the passage of the First Amendment among the Bill of Rights, the first of its kind in human history.

Here’s more from The Daily Signal…

Last week may have marked an inflection point for international religious freedom.

Historically, governments that strongly protect religious freedom have been a rarity. It is no small thing, then, that essentially all countries are now willing at least to pay lip service to the idea, enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, that religious freedom is a universal and fundamental human right.

But the gap between what countries say about religious freedom and what they actually do is often depressingly immense.

In this context, last week’s first-ever Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom at the State Department was truly historic. The U.S. government organized and hosted the meeting, bringing together 80 countries and roughly 400 civil society and religious leaders.

The event has already produced two results: first, a roadmap toward a new era of concerted international efforts to truly protect religious freedom, and second, solid evidence of just how dire the present situation is.

States Sue to Stop 3-D Gun Printing

State-level gun grabbers across eight states are going full throttle to stop the release of 3-D printable gun designs to the American people. The tricky part, however, is that judges may not be able to lawfully block release of the files. Rather, they may only prevent state residents from downloading the gun design files. At least that’s the plan. The lawsuits are the result of the Trump administration’s decision to allow a Texas company to publish the blueprints. From the left’s perspective, printable guns are a direct threat to the drive toward full gun control. And they’re absolutely right.

Here’s more from Hot Air…

Over the weekend I looked at the imminent release of a collection of 3-D printable gun designs and the frantic efforts of gun control advocates to prevent it from happening. The deadline for action was originally supposed to be midnight tonight, but apparently, the files became available last night. In either case, the wheels of justice would need to be moving far, far faster than is their normal routine if anything was to happen. Surprisingly, opponents of the release were able to push some judges to begin issuing orders in record time, but only at the state level.

The first example comes to us from Pennsylvania, where a judge might not be able to block the release, but will at least attempt to stop residents from downloading the files.

Pennsylvanians will not be able to download plans to make 3D-printable guns.

The decision comes after a rare Sunday night emergency hearing in Federal Court. Attorney General Josh Shapiro, Governor Tom Wolf, and Pennsylvania State Police sued to block the company that distributes those plans.

Poll: (Not So) Proud to Be An American

A record low number of Americans are proud to be…American. A mere 47% of those polled by Gallup in a recent survey claim to be extremely proud patriots. This is the first time the poll dipped below a majority. The peak occurred in 2003 when 70 percent claimed pride in being American on the heels of 9/11. Get ready for the left to blame both President Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress. What they’ll not tell you, however, is that the discernible downturn started soon after the reelection of Barack Obama.
Here’s more from Gallup…
This Fourth of July marks a low point in U.S. patriotism. For the first time in Gallup’s 18-year history asking U.S. adults how proud they are to be Americans, fewer than a majority say they are “extremely proud.” Currently, 47% describe themselves this way, down from 51% in 2017 and well below the peak of 70% in 2003.
The latest results are based on a June 1-13 poll. When Gallup first asked the question in 2001, 55% of Americans said they were extremely proud. After the 9/11 terror attacks caused the public to rally around the nation and its leaders, the percentage expressing extreme pride in the country increased to 65%, and went up further to 70% less than two years later.
By 2005, about the time George W. Bush was set to begin his second term in office and the U.S. was going on its second year of military involvement in Iraq, the percentage extremely proud to be Americans fell to 61%. It held in the high 50% range between 2006 and 2013, but has fallen at least marginally each year since 2015, about the time the 2016 presidential campaign was getting underway.

Shapiro Event Shutdown Results in Lawsuit for U of Minn.

Recall Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro’s speech was upended by the University of Minnesota back in February.
The move quickly earned lawsuits after the speech venue was switched to an isolated, smaller venue because ‘Defendants and other students and faculty members disagreed with the content and viewpoint of the Plaintiff’s speech’ and chose censorship instead.
According to Young America’s Foundation, who filed suit along with Shapiro, “Internal emails obtained by Young America’s Foundation through the Censorship Exposed project revealed top-level administrators’ plans to arbitrarily cap attendance at Shapiro’s lecture,” contrary to public statements.
In short, Ivory Tower elitists are all about academic freedom and the First Amendment…so long as it’s reliably leftist.
Here’s more from The Daily Wire…
On Tuesday, Young America’s Foundation (YAF), Students for a Conservative Voice (SCV), and Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro filed a First Amendment lawsuit against the University of Minnesota, charging the university with unconstitutionally infringing upon students’ First Amendment and Fourteenth Amendment rights by suppressing Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro’s speech and relocating it to a smaller, more isolated venue in late February 2018, “all because Defendants and others students and faculty members disagreed with the content and viewpoint of Plaintiffs’ speech.”

AS YAF wrote in their statement:

School policy permits administrators to wield unbridled discretion to suppress student speech that administrators dislike. The University of Minnesota has a long history of welcoming leftist guest speakers to campus, but when conservative students invited Ben Shapiro to speak at a YAF-sponsored lecture, administrators put the school’s Speech Suppression policy into action.

University administrators schemed to limit student exposure to Mr. Shapiro’s conservative ideas. They banished Shapiro’s lecture to the St. Paul campus, refusing to allow him to speak on the University’s main campus in Minneapolis, and they arbitrarily limited student attendance to 500 attendees.

Internal emails obtained by Young America’s Foundation through the Censorship Exposed project revealed top-level administrators’ plans to arbitrarily cap attendance at Shapiro’s lecture and move the event to the St. Paul Campus—all despite misleading public statements to the contrary.

Polls: Americans Want to Keep ICE

The Twitter hashtag turned trendy a misinformed rally cry known as ‘Abolish ICE’ which is failing to gain political traction for the Left.
In fact, according to a Harvard-Harris poll, three-quarters of Republicans and a solid majority of Democrats oppose abolishing ICE.
A few Democrats more in tune with reality are urging a refocus on policy reform rather than abolishing immigration law enforcement.
Which shouldn’t come as a surprise; after all, opening up our back door to every would-be drug dealer and terrorist somehow doesn’t sit well with even the most liberal Democrats.
Here’s more from Hot Air…

“Abolish ICE” isn’t a solution, argues my colleague Ed Morrissey at the Daily Beast today, it’s a slogan. Indeed, and that’s being generous. It started as a Twitter hashtag, per HuffPost. As the phrase started showing up more online, desperate opportunists like Kirsten Gillibrand who are looking for an angle to shore up their left flank in the 2020 primaries glommed onto it. Just like that, the hashtag #AbolishICE had become the slogan “Abolish ICE,” which had in turn become a semi-serious policy proposed by a semi-serious U.S. senator. And once it did, other supposedly serious 2020 contenders had to keep pace with Gillibrand by proposing it too.

Suddenly Democrats have a problem. No one to the right of the DSA thinks “abolish ICE” will help claw back Rust Belt voters who flipped from Obama to Trump in the last election, but because it’s gone from zero to “litmus test” overnight with Gillibrand’s and Warren’s help, the party leadership can only run so far from the idea without getting into trouble.

Nearly 600 Women’s March Protestors Arrested at Senate Building

Just under 600 Women’s March protestors were arrested by Capitol Police after they occupied the Hart Senate Office Building atrium on Thursday.
The group chanted “Abolish ICE” and “We care!” as part of their protest against the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” border enforcement policies.
The latter was, of course, a response to First Lady Melania Trump’s now infamous olive-green jacket which was emblazoned with “I really don’t care, do u?”
Apparently members of Congress didn’t care much for the protestors either, as they were promptly ignored before being arrested.
Here’s more from PJ Media…
Capitol Police arrested nearly 600 Women’s March protesters who filled the atrium of the Hart Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill today in opposition to the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” border enforcement policies.

The women and a few men chanted “Abolish ICE” and donned foil blankets like those given to child detainees in photos of Texas border processing facilities recently released by Customs and Border Protection.
